Sir.
I have the honour to
apply for an Appointment in
the Queensland Civil Service.
I am 26 years of age.
I was educated at S. Andrew's
College, Grahamstown, South Africa,
of which Institution my father
was then Head Master. There I
passed the Elementary and Matri-
culation Examinations of the Cape
University.
In 1879 I entered the Civil
Service of the Cape of Good Hope,
and in the Office of the Civil
Commissioner and Resident Magistrate
for Albany (one of the most im-
portant districts of the Cape) I
rose from the position of 4th clerk
to that of Acting Chief. I have
