Colonial Secretary's Office, Brisbane, 10th. July 1861 [Left Margin] 61/547 Sir, The Executive Council having recently had under consideration the application conveyed in your letter of the 22nd. ultimo in reference to a Black known as "Tommy Hippi", who was employed on your Station until he was induced to enter the Native Police Force, but is now desirous of leaving the Force with the view of returning to your service, I am directed in reply to inform you that in consideration of the testimomy borne to the sobriety and general good conduct of this Aboriginal and under the circumstances adduced by you in support of your application for his discharge, the necessary steps will at once be taken for his removal from the force. As however it might not be either desirable or practicable to order his immediate discharge, the Officer in command of the Division to which he is attached, will be communicated with, and it is probable that he will be able to dispense with the services of this Trooper soon enough to allow his return to his own Country in your care at the close of the present Session of Parliament. I have &c. (Sgd.) A. W. Manning. John Ferret Esq. Brisbane.
