Colonial Secretary's Office, Brisbane, 10th. July, 1861. [Left Margin] 61/548. Sir, Mr. John Ferrett, the Member for Maranoa in the Legislative Assembly having recently made application to the Government for the discharge from the Police Force of a Trooper attached to the Division under your command, and known as Tommy Hippi; and the matter having been brought before the Executive Council, I am directed to acquaint you that it has been determined for various reasons adduced in support of the application, to discharge this Trooper who will therefore immediately return to his own Country in the care of Mr. Ferrett. 2. As however it is thought that it may not be desirable or even practicable, at once to remove him from your Detachment of Police, Mr. Ferrett has been informed that this Aboriginal cannot be allowed to enter his service until the close of the present session of Parliament. 3. You will meanwhile be good enough to take the necessary steps for supplying the vacancy that will occur upon the discharge of this Trooper. I have &c. (Sgd) A. W. Manning F. Wheeler Esq. N.M.P.
