Police Office Rockhampton
May 22nd 1865 -
Sir,
I have the honor to address
you on the following subject and
to ask for instructions how to proceed.
A man named Thompson, a Carrier,
is in Custody on a charge of wilful
murder of one Pompey—a civilized
aboriginal black. He is not yet
committed for trial but certainly will
be. The body of the boy Pompey was
buried without any inquest or magis-
terial enquiry. It appears by the exami-
-nation on Friday last in the Police Court
that Thompson fired from a revolver
a ball at Pompey whilst he was galloping
away, struck him on the loins near the
spine and thereby caused him to fall
from the horse—Pompey never rose again.
