in burning there_ A black called "Shepherd Johnny shot one and other blacks Killed some with their "Waddies"_ a blackfellow asked if he might burn [the] [struck out & initialled H.C.] the body of the black fellow _ he said he was a relation _ I told he could do as he liked _ I do not know whether the blacks are in the habit of burning or burying their dead _ the black who asked to burn the body was doing some work for me on the Station and he wanted y permissionto allow him to go _ and I permitted him _ I have only seen one [dead] [inserted & initialled H.C.] body nd I do t think I saw it re than once ____ Lieut Wheer accompanied by his troopers ca to [the head] [struck out & initialled H.C.] house about midday of the Twenty fourth of December _ It was before I left the Station that day _ Whwn I first seen him he was close to the fence elosing the [stables] [struck out & initialled H.C.] _ he asked if they could have rations _ which he had as usual when he came that way and paid for the - he remained at the station at my house all that night and I believe left before I rose the next morning _ he made no remarks about any blackfellows having been Shot _ I thought I told him that there was a blackfellow dead _ I told hithere had been a ood deal [ing] [struck out & initialled H.C.] of fighting an Corroboreeing among the blacksthe last few weeks _ I dont remember that he made any reply _ I told him that I was glad he came up, there were so many [strange] [inserted & initialled H.C.] blacks about and hoped he wuld dispese them _ I heard firing in the direction of the Scrub that day before Lieut Wheeler came up _ I cannot say how many Shots _ two or three_ there might have been more or there may be have fewer shots fired _ I did not think anything of them _ being holiday time I thought it might be some one Shooting game I am not certain the body I saw was shot - it smelled a good dea - it looked as if it had been hit about the face with a heavy metalled waddie _ I think that either Lieut Wheeler or one of his troopers was in the lane which leads to the creek when I saw him first _ that is the direct way to the scrub rom my house _ but the scrub can be exteed frothe road leading to the Peak Mountains, and [also] [inserted & initialled H.C.] there is a ship panel on the track leading to Dugout Lane also _ Some Whites assisted in Shooting them blacks 'day that I have referred to.
