Taxation would have the effect of retarding if not of preventing altogether,
any further accession to that class of population which can alone create
a value to the waste and unoccupied Lands and would be the cause
of many of the working industrious class selling their homesteads
and your Petitioners are under the strongest conviction looking to the
actual circumstances of the locality that the proposed Municipality is
prematurely applied for
That taking the foregoing premises into
consideration your Petitioners cannot arrive at any other conclusion
than that to grant the Incorporation petitioned for would be to inflict
a serious permanent evil on the best interests of Maryborough and
they therefore protest against the creation of such Municipality
because the Incorporation of Maryborough is at present premature,
unnecessary, in every point of view undesirable, and would be
oppressive to your Petitioners, who therefore pray that your
Excellency will be pleased not to sanction the Incorporation of
Maryborough into a Municipality and your Petitioners will
ever pray &c
