Statement of WR Reynolds, Master of "Helena" Our boats were going on shore at La Menu for the purpose of recruiting, when they heard firing on the shore and saw two boats of "William Manson" on the beach with only two of the crew in them. When they heard the firing, the "Helena's" boats came over to Facio's Store. Ringdove Bay, where I already was; they did not land at La Menu but reported to me the boats of "William Manson" had set the place on fire there. (Signed) W Rees Reynolds Master The above statement was made and signed in my presence. (Signed) H Rogers Sub Lieutenant HMS "Karrakatta" 20th November 1894
