in this respect, nor can I recommend
that a cottage should be built for him,
as I consider that there are already
far too many women and children on
the [St Helena Island, Queensland|Island]]. He might however be
promised the first cottage which might
become vacant, unless such promise has
already been made to some other married
officer of the Establishment -
Should it be considered advisable to
appoint Mr Howard to the position of
Warden and Trade Instructor, I would suggest
that Mr Davies be requested to defer his
departure from the Island for at least a
fortnight, so that he might give Mr. Howard
the benefit of his experience in the
management of the Prisoners - the keeping
of the Shop books and an insight into the
duties generally which he would be called
upon to perform - I would strongly urge that
this suggestion be adopted, as I feel sure it will
be of incalculable advantage to him, commencing
the Arduous duties which will necessarily be
imposed upon him - to have the benefit of Mr.
Davies experience and advice.
