To The Honourable The Colonial Secretary Sir, I have the honour to again receive the appointment of Trade Instructor at St Helena, I filled that position for four years and during that time, I believe I met with the approval of my Superior Officers both with referencee to my charactor [sic.] and the way I conducted the duties devolved upon me, I resigned in October last my principle reason for doing so, was the small salary paid for my Services and no apparent chance of promotion, although through my energy a very large number of orders were executed, never before made at St Helena, and consequently the number of prisoners under my control increased from 28 to 65, and the recipts [sic.] from £1200 to £2600, — In again returning to take up duties at St Helena, I pray, you may be pleased to increase my Salary from £130 to £150 . such Sum being Small compared to Salary's [sic.] paid to Cutters in town, I beg to refer you to Captain William Townley . Sheriff of Queensland [Marginalia. Wm. Davies] [Marginalia. stamp. COLONIAL SECRETARY'S (Crown) OFFICE. QUEENSLAND. 02539. 21. MAR. 89] [Marginalia.
