Inform the Col. Secretary that the reserve of police paddock on the road from Cooktown to the McIvor River which was established in lieu of that proclaimed in page 82 of the G.G. of 1880 Part 1st is found to be quite unsuitable for the purpose for which it was intended, being some 4 miles distant from the selections on the river, very imperfectly supplied with water and the land swampy. The original reserve is better situated and so much more suitable in every way for a paddock and as more of the land is being selected, altho' open to selection some time, I would beg to recommend that it again be proclaimed as a Police Paddock & the present res. cancelled [initials] JW [Notes in left margin] Accdly 26. 7. 83
