Sir, I have the honor to acknowledge the various maps indicating the limits of the reserves. I quite agree with you as to the necessity of making them some- what smaller, and then proclaiming them under Sects 7 and 11:- unless you consider that such a proceeding would nullify the interpretation of a "Reserve" under Section 3. My opinion with regard to the Bloomfield Reserve you will recognize by the enclosed report of my late trip. The Boggy Creek Reserve I am unable to visit just at present owing to the flooded state of the rivers: indeed the only direction I can safely travel along now is towards Cape Bedford and the McIvor where I propose going on patrol about 7th or 8th March. All next week I shall be very busy indeed writing up my Ethnological notes on the Bloomfield River blacks: however I will find time to learn all the ins and outs of the North Shore and Quarantine Reserves - I am particularly anxious to get the latter proclaimed an Aboriginal one. The ac- companying extract may interest you. I regret that I cannot reply to R. H. Smith's letter concerning his kanaka and aboriginal wife, (which you forwarded me to be dealt with) for the reason that his communication is addressed "Brisbane" only:- perhaps you could
