Nov 11th. 89.
The Hon.
The Colonial Secretary
Brisbane.
Sir
I have the honor
to request that an increase will be made
in the amount for food, for the Blacks here.
I have been receiving £8 a calendar
month, and understood it was at
the rate £2 a week, but the Police
Magistrate in Herberton informed me
to the contrary.
I have received £25 and am £12 out
of pocket and don't want to increase
it.
I think a 1/ - a head per week would be
a fair amount to expend on the blacks at the least, That would be
£5 a week for
a hundred.
When the Blacks came in I thought there
were only 40 or 50 but I have had a hundred
and twenty at one time and they would
make a hole in £8 a month.
