On my arrival there I found that the blacks had been killing cattle in the paddock three miles from the head station and two miles from the out station. I was told by Mr Robinson junior that he did his best to protect his property and had followed the blacks into the dense scrubs and had caught one black fellow whom he detained till my arrival. He only employs two black boys to assist him in stock-keeping. He also told me he was willing to try to come to friendly terms with the natives. But that it was a both difficult and dangerous matter to do so. He has an old father and mother and two sisters who live in an unprotected state when he is absent and that he could not afford to employ more men. I sent the troopers out into the scrub with orders to try and induce the natives to come in and if they could to bring in
