Telegram from the Police Magistrate
Normanton
To the Hon'ble The Colonial Secretary
Brisbane
20th August 1874
The Commissioner has telegraphed
to Sergeant Griffin telling him he
must act if appropriate. He has
repeated the message to his Inspector
in Georgetown, whose reply is that
he is to attend to his previous
instructions which were not to
act. In consequence of this
Sergeant Griffin still declines to
act. If there is much more
delay it will be impossible to do
anything. The Sergeant says it
is contrary to his orders to ask
for further instructions from the
Commissioner. Constable
Robinson is the other collector
appointed the Sub Inspector refuses to let
him act in consequence of his instructions
from the Inspector
Alfred Henry
