where are stationed two other Constables besides the Gold Field's trooper. Constable Robinson, stationed at the Bynoe River under the Sub Inspector of Native Police, was appointed to visit the stations between Normanton and the Cloncurry; his probable absence from Barracks about twelve days. Sub Inspector Knott had told us that being short of ammunition, he was unable to go on patrol with his detachment except in a case of great urgency. So by the Sub Inspector's own showing no inconvenience was likely to arise except as before stated, in the case of any sudden emergency, in which case Sergeant Griffin could have safely taken Constable Robinson's place until the Sub Inspector's return. Under ordinary circumstances the Bench would have been loth to interfere with any Constable attached to the native Police, but it was, as before stated, simply a question of employing three men or not collecting the lists at all. I have the honor to be Sir Your most obedient servant [signed] Alfred Henry Police Magistrate. The Hon'ble The Colonial Secretary Brisbane.
