Robinson act without instructions
from Inspector Morisset.
I then telegraphed further to
you (D hereto attached) to the
effect that in spite of the
Commissioner's telegram, the Police
still refused to act. I then re-
ceived your telegram dated
Rockhampton 20th August, in-
forming me that Inspector Mor-
isset had no right – to interfere,
and that the men were to proceed
as directed. I showed this telegram
to Sergeant Griffin, who again
refused to act, saying that he
dared not do so until instructed
by Inspector Morisset. It was
not until the Commissioner of
Police sent him a second and
peremptory order that he consented
to act.
If Constable Robinson
performs his duties with dispatch
a portion of the Cloncurry can
be collected; but there is now
no possibility of the Southern
and Eastern portions of the District
being collected; whereas had our
instructions been promptly carried
