No. 1 Court House Maytown 23rd January 1888 Before T.C. Davies Esqre JP.\ Inquiry into the Cause of death of Alfred Wright John Carrigan being duly sworn states I am a Stockman on Strathleven Station. I believe the property of Mr De Salis. Mr McWaugh is the Manager. We were mustering down the river about thirty miles about the Commencement of this present month. Mr McWaugh, Mr Wright and a little black boy were with me. On Tuesday morning the 10th instant Mr McWaugh swam the Palmer River to fetch over some rations at the Camp. The Camp was about one mile from the head station. He brought us over some cooked rations in the boat. He returned back to the Station. Mr Wright the Black boy & I went up the Bank of the river and had a feed then started down to the Camp. I lit a fire and either Mr Wright or the little black boy & [sic] put the billy on. So I did not care stopping at the Camp and took an axe and went down between it and the river and started Cutting saplings for purpose of building a temporary dog-leg yard. I cut 8 or 10 saplings, dragged some of them in and laid them along the line where I was going to put them up. Drove three forks [in margin Commissoner of Police stamp, inside of which reads 02,110 Queensland 21 Mar. 88]
